Digimon Adventures

Posted : 2 months, 1 week ago on 29 April 2008 11:24 (A review of Digimon: Digital Monsters)

Digimon is about these 7 kids that all went to the same summercamp who get transported into this digital world. No one quite knows how they got there but they did. Anyways as soon as the 7 children (digidestins) got to the digital world they were each given a creature (digimon) that there own personalities. The digimon already had known the chidren's names. After that the chidren have to learn to work as a team and defeat evil. Now this is where it gets really interesting when they finally go home (taking the digimon) the digidestins there of another child with a digimon (another digidestin). They all work together to try and figure out who it is. It turns out be Kari (aka Tai's little sister) who's digimon is Gotamon. Kari is my personal favorite she's always sticking up for others.

Bleach

Posted : 2 months, 1 week ago on 29 April 2008 11:07 (A review of Bleach)

This is one of the most popular anime series out there. There is a little of each aspect to it for every kind of fan. The most common being action with a hint of romance and, of course, comedy. Like any true anime, there is a mystery you are introduced to not long into the series. There is however a bit of a drag when Ichigo and company seem to be endlessly fighting to save Rukia. Will the fighting never end? Its redeeming factor is that as the battles progress, the skill and expections grow even greater, making it worth the wait.

The characters are all amazing, each one is unique. Not to mention many unique hairstyles. The author made sure to even choose names for the characters that suited them best. This review ends here with the very strong encouragment to start this anime right away, just about anyone will love it!

.hack//Legend of the Twilight

Posted : 2 months, 1 week ago on 29 April 2008 10:59 (A review of .hack//Legend of the Twilight)

Before you actually start watching .hack//Legend of the Twilight, I'd like to stress that you need to know some basic information about the other anime (.hack//SIGN) and the video game series, or else be prepared for an endless chain of questions.

Storyline - Less confusing than SIGN. For those of you who had trouble comprehending the first, you might like Legend. DON'T EXPECT HEAVY DRAMA!

Music - Not that good. You might like it, but it definently is uncomparable to SIGN's bg music AND opening/closing theme.

Animation - Many of the characters look like they've been fused with DiGi Charat. (I mean, the bright, cute, huge eyes that are just too irresistable) The animation is still smooth and clean, as usual.

Other - If you thought SIGN was too drama-oriented, perhaps Legend is right for you. Legend brings the action and comedy SIGN was lacking.

I give it overall an 8/10. Strangely, I liked SIGN's intense dramatic scenes. Legend had several characters that were.... questionable. For an example, the blonde-haired guy riding the Grundy who thrusts his super-weird laugh whenever he makes an appearence (SH-SH-SH!!) can be compared to as the amazingly annoying Sora of SIGN.

Watch or skip? Watch only if you know something about the video games and SIGN. Skip it if you didn't.

Beyblade

Posted : 2 months, 1 week ago on 29 April 2008 10:52 (A review of Beyblade)

Overall Beyblade is about a group of boys wanting to become world champions in the championships of beyblading. Below are my reviews on each season.

Beyblade season 1
Beyblade 1 was pretty good, with good character design and voices, music and storyline. All the main characters were interesting in their own ways but the characters Ray and Kai made it worth watching. Both characters brought more maturity into the program as well as interesting stories. Tyson and Max brought more humor.
It was also good to see that season 1 was divided into parts, with each part focusing on one of the main characters, showing how all of them were great bladers. This was good since it gave the viewer the chance to enjoy watching a number of episodes on their favorite character being the best.
But unfortuantely as it came to the last part of the season, the idea of making all of the characters important as well as top bladers didn't really continue, which was a great disappointment.

Beyblade season 2
This was disappointing. The big blow was that the character designs changed to make Ray, Kai, tyson and Max look younger which did not fit with their more mature voices and behavior (especially when one gets used to their look and age in season 1). It also made the anime look too kiddy which would especially be disappointing to older viewers.
It was strange to see the characters shrink in size as well making them look too young to be skillful bladers. The only good point was that the character face designs were better in someways then season 1.
Anyway the storyline was not as good as season 1, and battles did not look as great. It focused too much on the character Tyson, making him the only best blader, when his team mates also wanted to be recognized as world champions.
This season didn't give the same importance to the other characters as it did in season 1. Whenever it came to a top enemy blader, Tyson was the only one good enough to fight him, making his fights more interesting to watch. A disappointment to fans of the other characters.

Beyblade season 3
The character design changed again, making the characters look a little older (yeah!!!).
This season is not bad and much better then season 2. The storyline was much more interesting and therefore comes close to being as good as season 1. Also good music and beyblade battles.
The first part of Season 3 shows the bladebreakers breaking up since they want to fight each other in the world championships. It focuses a little bit more on Ray, Kai and Max, showing them to be very powerful bladers. (much better than season 2)
But personally it was disappointing to see another season make out Tyson to be the best blader again. It would have been great to see the other characters have a share in that glory for once, since each one of them were as determined as Tyson and skillful.
The story just ended up being unrealistic since Ray, Kai and Max did intense training to beat Tyson.
But overall it was good to see Ray, Kai and Max's beyblading fights to be a whole lot better. It was also great to see Ray and Kai fight eachother, and see Ray and Kai fight Tyson again.

ZOIDS

Posted : 2 months, 1 week ago on 29 April 2008 10:24 (A review of Zoids: Chaotic Century)

I am a big fan of Zoids.
However, the Zoids Anime series ranks to nothing but average.

While I have only seen Zoids: Chaotic Century and Zoids: Shin Seiki Zero, I have seen enough to be able to say that what plagues the Anime series is the fact that whatever was wrong with the previous installment isn't fixed in the next.

Zoids suffers from cheesy dialogue and an iffy plot (heroic yet immature kid finds a mysterious young girl holding great power and in turn experiences a lot of emotional growth: used to death). Situations can sometimes seem unrealistic, which is out of place because the show deals a lot with underground conspiracy. While the physics explanations are plausible, they're quite overdone. It's understandable, however. Zoids started with no story. To turn a bunch of high-class model kits into a groundbreaking Anime is not an easy step at all. However, my reaction to Zoids was still: They could have done better.

Now, visually, Zoids was one of the best animated shows out there. Instead of using conventional 3-D animation, the animators decided to take it another notch and use cel-shading instead. THE ZOIDS WERE NOT HAND-DRAWN.
Cel-shading is a method that makes 3-D models look as if they were still cartoons. This is normally used to the 3-D models would blend in better with two-dimensional surroundings. The same method is used in Jet Set Radio Future, Zelda: The Wind Waker, XIII, Kirby: Right Back At Ya, Megaman: NetWarriors, SD Gundam, and some others.
Cel-shading is perfectly in place here because as seen in the model kits, the armor panels show a lot of the intricate workings inside of a Zoid, and the only way to visually convey these complicated machines realistically while allowing them to merge with the hand-drawn portions of the show was to use the cel-shading method.
The drawn animations are, again, average.
The soundtrack can be summed up in one word: snazzy.

Overall, while it's an enjoyable show, Zoids barely falls above average but can't really rank with the best of them. It'll take a real Zoids fan to appreciate this show for what it is.

Inuyasha

Posted : 2 months, 1 week ago on 29 April 2008 09:50 (A review of Inuyasha)

This anime is a long one, kind of like Dragon ball. It is really good, especially the comedy. Shippou and Miroku are the fuel for that fire, always teasing Inu yasha and Kagome. Miroku's attempts to have any beautiful girl he mets to bare his children are hilarious.
The romance between Inuyasha and Kagome is beautiful, yet funny and definitely make it worth the watch. There is also the strained relationship between Miroku and Sango. They are both afraid to let themselves love each other because Miroku has a cursed hand that will kill him someday and Sango isn't sure if she can trust Miroku with her heart since he seems to be a player.

Lastly, it is the never ending battle against one demon, Naraku. It seems no matter how hard they try, Naraku can never be killed. He is a demon that cursed Miroku's family, killed Sango's family and caused a dying Kikyo (by Naraku's hand) , whom Inu yasha loved, to bind him to a sacred tree until Kagome freed him.

Everyone will love this show!

Naruto

Posted : 2 months, 1 week ago on 29 April 2008 09:20 (A review of Naruto)

Well well well. What can i say about Naruto. It's an awsome energetic anime that deserves a chance from everybody. Naruto is a boy born of a creature called the nine tailed fox which was known for its strength. Haven being born from this Naruto has special abilities that developes as the story moves along. Growing up was hard for him because he never had parents. Literally. everybody always looked down on him because of "what" he came from. So he would do crazy things just to get everybodies attention. I'm not going to go into all the details of that part of the story because you would have to see it for yourself to understand. Anyways he trying to become Hokage this is the person that's in charge of the village. To do this him and 2 others are put in a group based on the balances of their powers, to train together under a specific person. The 2 people are Sasuke and Sakura. Look at the story to find out what so significant about this group. It might look like a kiddy show at first glance to some people but if you look at it, you'll love it. It'll probably be better than most anime you've seen.
